What to do in an Intercession Set at IHOP
-Matt Candler and Mike Bickle speaking

Premise: “Whenever the Word of God is spoken, the Spirit Moves”
Genesis 1 principle: The Spirit is hovering, waiting to move when the Word is spoken. In worship the Spirit moves. In the hour of temptation, just as Jesus said, “It is written…” the Spirit moves.

In Intercession Meetings, Repeat phrases. About every 3-4 sentences that are prayed and sung, paraphrase it and say it. We think it’s silly and to simple to repeat things, but this is God’s way of doing it. We must be content to agree with God’s way of humility to simply repeat. This is what releases the power of God. Do this during your time in the room and even when you are on the stage leading and playing. Do not say “Amen”, but actually repeat the phrases out loud, word for word. It makes a big difference in keeping you focused and engaged in prayer. It’s simple, but powerful.

Use the worship sets as your dialogue with the Lord. Get to where you’re not just singing songs, but dialoging with the Lord through them. Many people ask with frustration, “How do I connect with God with all this stuff around me. (Many focuses, prayers, etc.)?” The answer is so simple, just use the meeting as your connect point.

I do 4 things in a set:
1. Agree in prayer by repeating and saying phrases quietly to the Lord
2. Turn attention inward to the Spirit, gazing and speaking to the glory within.
3. Take a passage and meditate/study it.
4. Daydream

“Prayer is so easy, anybody can do it, but prayer is so easy, few do it.” But even in it’s simplicity, its all God asks us to do.

If you GO LOW in the midst of great blessing, God will take care of the finances, controversy, and enemies.

Julie saw Mike and he said, “When I need money, the Lord will give it. But when I’m in a time of great blessing I find 3 things increasing, finances, controversy, and enemies.” Francis Frangipane’s statement: “New Levels: New Devils.” This is God warning us like He told His disciples in the upper room, “I’m telling you before hand…” The key verse for this is Psalm 31:5, “Into Your hands I commit my spirit…” This is the way we call upon God, this is how you bring God into the battle, by going low and giving it to Him. The choice is ours: Give it to his hands or keep it in our hands. In November of 2002, IHOP was close to bankrupt. Mike took up an offering, it was the biggest ever, and He sowed it all. Then things started to turn around. Doing Ps. 31:5. The Lord says, “Call me in to the battle and I will help you.” The only option we have is to GO LOW. “Into your hands I commit my spirit, my cause, my dreams, my promises…” When the enemies attack, bless them. They’re not treating you right, GO LOW, Don’t defend, but give it to God. God gives the time delay till the breakthrough, why? To give us every chance to switch our decision, to make sure we are really serious, to confirm it. He waits until the last moment it feels like, to the place where you’re starting to gulp water.

In the early 1990’s, there was the Kansas City Controversy. This will be like a pebble to what is coming. It will be like a huge rock falling through the roof. 1990 was to train you for what is coming in the youth movement. “Only respond with blessing!” God is not interested in making IHOP big, but in His Kingdom and meekness and humility and Sermon on the Mount character.

Julie saw God kneading IHOP in his hands like dough; it was rough and ugly, turning it inside out, etc. But He had a smile on His face. This kneading was only for a season. There is a shift and a switch coming. God is going to bake IHOP in the fire. This fire will affect us all. But it’s because God is making IHOP into a golden loaf of “bread” which will be the Word of God that He will fed to the nations.

Julie saw God putting IHOP in a can and violently shaking it up, like a puzzle. She saw 5 things that God was doing:
1. Many in the front of the line will be moved to the back to learn joy and contentment in the back.
2. Many in the back will be moved to the front to learn humility and excellence and skill so that the back is as good as the front.
3. Those in the front who are humble will stay there.
4. Those who are prideful and ambitious in the back will stay there. God is not pleased with this.
5. Those who feel irreplaceable will be replaced because they are unable to GO LOW and embrace humility. There will be some “shockers.”
(Notes: The back of the line is where the sting is. It’s about you and God alone. There’s this sting that you feel and you have to love Jesus in the midst of it. You must do it alone.)
No matter how much you have or have done, He will turn it all around. (You could be 60 years old and filled with the Word of God…) You must GO LOW. Julie went through a 4 year season of all she could hear from God was, “Go Low… Don’t get up… Go Low… Go Low…” We win by growing in humility. Your success is not in your anointing, impact, or your good CD. It is about finding Him in going low. And He gives us many opportunities to grow in this “greatness.” He gives you a hundred different looks and seasons to choose humility. In the mundane and the fruitful…. They are all opportunities to confirm your decision for humility. When you are 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, and 60, married, single, famous, or little. It’s about when you stand before God in the end, according to how you grew in Love and Humility. God is fighting for our greatness before Him.

When the crash comes and you get moved to the back of the line, don’t move somewhere, don’t seek things, and don’t seek people. The prideful won’t admit that they are full of pride. But they tell people the story of how the thing happened. Don’t do that. Embrace the sting and love Him alone in the midst of it.
What is the difference between passivity and humility? The passive don’t care. But humility is hard. Choose humility and say to Him, “I will love You here.”
