Gear

For those interested, I have compiled a list of the essential gear I use when I play the keyboard in the International House Of Prayer along with some resources at the bottom of the page for you to play with if you own some of these programs yourself. This is a path I have by no means tread on my own. I would also recommend checking out the websites of these amazing individuals (you will notice our gear set up is very similar):

  • Josh Hawkin’s meticulous gear overview (Plays on Justin Rizzo’s team. This is the guy who knows what he’s doing. We all go to his house when we’re confused… and then fall deeper in love with Jesus as we hear Josh speak…)

Hardware
-Early 2008 Macbook Pro Laptop with 500 GB Seagate Momentus XT SSD Hybrid 7200rpm HDD (I highly recommend this hard drive)

-MOTU UltraLite-mk3 FireWire Audio/Midi Interface (This connects Midi from the actual keyboard I play on to my computer and then transmits out the audio my computer processes from my software into stereo left-right channels, as well as a click/metronome output for the band to follow along with in our in-ears. It also has options for input channels. Sometimes I use this to record what the singers are singing on the fly, or to snatch a sweet beat the drummer is playing by plugging in a 1/4 inch cable from an extra Aviom monitor lying around. I’ve also found that Firewire significantly boosts my computer’s performance compared with usb 2.0. In terms of interfaces, MOTU is incredibly reliable and durable)

-Korg nanoKONTROL MIDI Controller (only $43 on Amazon. I mostly use this to ease the fade-in/out of my sounds)

Software

-Abelton Live 8 Suite – boxed version with EIC 2 (I use “Live” as my host which all my other programs “plug-in” to. I also use some of the sounds (such as their EIC 2 Grand Piano), drum kits, and effects that come built-in with Live. Click on the second picture below to see a more detailed screen shot of my most recent Live set – what I start out with when I begin a set in the prayer room, all my tracks and effects ready to go)

-Spectrasonics Omnisphere (85% of all the sounds I produce come from this astounding program)

-Native Instruments ELEKTRIK PIANO – (My Rhodes sound) and B4 II – (My B3 organ sound)

EXTRAS:

Here I created some loops in a compressed zip file. In order to get it on my blog, I had to dodge the system and rename it a .m4a file, so you will have to download it (109MB), change it to a .zip, then unzip it and you get a folder of 31 loops I regularly use that can help you lead enjoyable prayer meetings without a full band (like Josh Hawkins did in this video).

Wow, thanks Truman. I will definitely use these in worship! By the way, what live software do you use on your Mac when worshiping? I’m using Logic, and it’s starting to get a little restricting. God bless you and continue to give you melodies that break chains and awaken hearts!

  2. I was wondering if you were able to email me this to a gmail account as I am finding it hard to download from here? Maybe Im just not doing it right! Cheers

Hey truman, I was watching the webcast and heard ryan kondos team do the earth is yours and the loops you used for that song were fantastic! I play at at a house of prayer in st louis, and we have tried to do that song before, and I dont have good stuff for that song. Any chance you can email me them? When we do it it just is really empty without those strings, bells and small percussion loop. If you could just email me the audio loop files that would be so awesome! Thanks so much bro!
